What our International Students have to say about Billanook

WenWen XU (Rebecca), Year 10 China

"I could never have dreamed of finding a school that would be so welcoming."

"Even though I have only been a student at Billanook Collge for such a short time of 3 months, I have really enjoyed the opportunities to learn in so many new ways. Education in Australia can be so much fun compared to China, my home country.  In Australia I have already noticed that students learn through activity rather than learning just from reading books. The subject choices in Australia are wonderful.

My English language has already improved so much – as I have less opportunity to speak Chinese at this school as my friends are from many different countries.
Speaking of friendship, I could never have dreamed of finding a school that would be so welcoming. I can truly say that I love coming to school each day because I know that people, both staff and students, will always greet me with a smile.

My Homestay life is just wonderful – with my Homestay parents and homestay sister treating me as one of the family and including me in everything they do as a family. While I am returning to China for the Summer vacation, I can’t wait to return to my Australian family again in late January"

Saharat Srimuang (Mike), Year 10 Thailand

"I really do feel part of the family."

"I have found education in Australia to based on guidance of student learning rather than teachers just filling the student mind with knowledge. In Thailand I was one of 60 students in a class but in Australia I feel that the teachers actually know me as a person.

My passion for study is focused upon Creative Art and Design and I am finding that I have so many choices in this field.
The teachers at Billanook College are really helpful but at the same time, the lessons are really interesting and fun.

My Australian Homestay family is just fantastic.  I know that I can talk to them about anything that is on my mind, and I really do feel part of the family. My Homestay sister – is a great “ Study Buddy “ – we often help each other with our homework.

Living in Australia, I have been able to take up my interest in playing Tennis – having Coaching at the College on Tuesday mornings and playing competition Tennis on Saturdays. All in all – life for me in Australia is just great!"

Achiraya Itsaramalai (Mook), Year 10 Thailand

"I have really enjoyed the variety of teaching and learning opportunities available."

"I joined Billanook College in Year 10 in May this year – and to be truthful I was pretty uncertain about what to expect of the school system and life in Australia.
At first, classes were difficult to understand but as I became more accustomed to the Australian accent I was able to gradually improve my understanding. When I was in Thailand I was not a strong student so in coming to Australia I was determined to try my best to achieve success.  I have really enjoyed the variety of teaching and learning opportunities available in Australia and I now see this as a new beginning to my future.

I have chosen some difficult subjects for the start of VCE studies but I know that I only have to ask for help from the teachers and that help will be offered.
My Homestay life is so much fun – with all of my homestay family members being kind, and supportive.  I am now a real part of the family and I really enjoy taking part in family activities."

Satona Murase, Year 12  Japan

" I have benefited from the extra efforts teachers and fellow students have been prepared to offer."

"I am now completing my high school education in Australia – a journey that has taken almost three years. The VCE is all but behind me, as I now await the final VCE results in mid December.

Billanook College has provided a wonderful learning environment for me – the teachers are passionate about their subjects and care so much about the achievements of their students. I have benefited from the extra efforts teachers and fellow students have been prepared to offer me in my studies. I have found many friends, people with  whom, I am sure I will stay friends for many years to come.

I have shared my passion for life in Australia with my parents back in Japan and I am hopeful that my parents will come and live in Australia with me some time in the near future."
