Melbourne, Australia has been ranked the second most liveable city in the world according to a global survey by the Economist Intelligence Unit. Australia’s cities received perfect scores for education and healthcare.

Melbourne is a modern city with over 170 ethnic groups who have made Melbourne their home. Melbourne also has a reputation as the Culture Capital of Australia. Its restaurants, museums, galleries and theatres are highly recommended to all visitors.

Melbourne is also renowned for its interest in all things sporting. Melbournians, as we are sometimes affectionately known as, watch a broad range of sport. Australian Football (AFL), cricket and basketball are just some of the games that you must see. In your first weeks in Melbourne you will be required to choose an AFL Football Team, as those you meet will often ask you, “Who do you barrack for?”



Melbourne’s weather can vary greatly and it is often said that you can experience four seasons in one day. In the summer months (December – February) temperatures can range from 15 to 40 degrees Celsius. Hot days are usually bearable because the heat is dry rather than humid. In winter (June – August) temperatures can range from 8 to 15 degrees Celsius with the nights as low as 3 degrees.

Melbourne’s annual average temperature is 14.9 degrees Celsius. Annual rainfall is 655mm.



The suburbs of Melbourne are serviced by a comprehensive train and bus service that you will find cheap and easy to use. Billanook College is located in the suburb of Mooroolbark, which is located on the Lilydale Train Line. The College campus is a short drive or bus ride from Mooroolbark’s train station.

Concession cards for government subsidised travel are not available to full fee paying International students.

Melbourne’s International Airport is approximately 22km from the city and just under an hour’s drive from the suburb of Mooroolbark. All International students are met at the airport, as arranged by the College.
