In 2016, Billanook College opened its brand new $1.8m Discovery Centre which serves as a multi-purpose open-plan learning environment with breakout spaces. The new building replaced the College’s original Year 7 building, and combines indoor and outdoor flexible learning areas that integrate with the school’s outstanding natural environment.
The new Mastery Centre is scheduled for completion in July 2017. Replacing the existing Year 8 building, the Mastery Centre will become a vital learning space which parallels Billanook’s innovative new curriculum.
In conjunction with Yarra Valley winemakers Billanook has developed its own working vineyard and Viticulture Skills Centre on the school property. The four hectare Cardigan Rise vineyard is ideally located on the Billanook campus right next to the Viticulture Skills Centre. The vineyard is an asset available for a variety of subjects across the Middle and Senior Schools. Maths and Science students calculate the harvest tonnage and the baume (sugar levels) present in the grapes, and Visual Arts students design and produce the annual wine label which is then professionally applied in the commercial bottling process.
Billanook College is currently undergoing a major period of redevelopment following the completion of a 10-year Strategic Building Development Plan. This Plan has already seen the refurbishment of our Primary School and Gymnasium, as well as the opening of the new Discovery Centre. Seven more buildings will either be built or significantly refurbished over the next seven years.
