Billanook College recognises, and is regarded for its comprehensive student support program which has been developed to maximize each student’s experience and outcome of their time, while studying at the College.
The College is staffed by a team of caring professionals who work together to make the educational experience of our International Students one of excellence. The interests of each individual are given the highest priority.
International Students are provided with the following pastoral support structure:
Appointed Local Support Person
International Student Alliance (ISA) Guardianship & Welfare Services, contracted by Billanook College, appoints a bi-lingual local support person to each International Student. The Local Support Persons are welcomed and encouraged to become part of the Billanook community, ensuring continuity of communication between the student, parent, College and Local Support Person.
The role of the Local Support Person is to offer practical support and guidance to the student and to provide legal permission for the student’s involvement in College programs in the absence of their parent. The Local Support Person also communicates with the parents to keep them informed of the student’s progress on a periodic basis.
Homestay is an accommodation option for international students who come to study at Billanook, unaccompanied by a parent. Homestay families are carefully selected and approved by the International Students Co-ordinator. All of the Homestay families selected are located within a close distance from Billanook College or with access to convenient transport.
Students are given a more authentic opportunity to experience Australia’s culture by participating in Homestay. It provides both the International student and the Host family with a valuable and rewarding experience, with many students staying in contact with host families long after their exchange.
